Meet Megan of Lush to Blush

What is your blog about?

My blog primarily focuses on luxury travel and lifestyle. Since I had to take a break on travel content in 2020, I shifted to home decor and lifestyle content. It was a big shift, but we were all shifting our lives at that time, so it worked out! Now that I’m back to traveling the world, I couldn’t be happier, despite the increased entry requirements!

What does travel mean to you?

Travel is everything to me. I very strongly believe traveling changes you as a person. Traveling has made me even more open and accepting of everyone. My values are more focused on the things that truly matter in life rather than the surface minutia we all can get caught up in. I love nothing more than seeing the world, meeting people of all cultures, and trying local cuisines. When you travel, you see he world from a different perspective. You see just how alike we all really are as humans.

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Dothan, Alabama, but I have lived all over the south. I went to high school in Florida and moved to Atlanta in 2012.

How and why did you start blogging?

I started blogging in 2012 as a creative outlet. I was recently out of college and dreamt of writing for a magazine in New York City. Wow, how times have changed! I created a blog to have a living resume of my writing to use with job applications. I did end up writing for an online magazine, which was a lot of fun. Then I got a job in marketing for a jewelry company thanks to my blog. In 2013, I started incorporating myself in my blog more instead of writing article-style pieces. By October of that year, 1.5 years after starting my blog, I was able to go full-time and I’ve never looked back!

What has been your favorite trip?

This is always the hardest question for me to answer because every trip is special in its own way. One that stands out the most is my trip to South Africa. I went on a safari and got to see the animals in their true natural habitat. It was absolutely breathtaking. Another favorite was Morocco. I went camping in the Sahara Desert and could see the Milky Way as clear as day. It was incredible.

What was your favorite travel moment?

My favorite thing about every single trip is the people I meet. Whether they’re locals or fellow travelers, there’s something so special and different about those travel friends. The best moments I have had in each destination was with people I had just met, yet felt like I’d known my whole life.

What advice would you give to others who are just starting their blog?

My number one pieces of advice is always to be authentic. It’s easy to get caught up in the glamorous idea of blogging, but in reality, it is hours and hours of hard work behind a screen. Starting a blog should be done for the right reasons and authenticity is key. Don’t just do or write about what you see others doing – do what is authentic to you.
